The annual Latrobe YP ski trip turned out to be another great day as expected. We had six people brave the early Saturday morning rise to make the trip up to the snow. In about 1.5 hours we were on the slopes where there was a good snow cover and most runs open.

The sun shone through for most of the day with the odd cloud rolling through bringing no snow but quite a bit of wind. There were no broken bones to report which is always a good thing. There were sore muscles in the days that followed though but all part of the experience.

A quick reminder that the Latrobe Young Professionals' Annual General Meeting will be held this WEDNESDAY night (18 August 2010) from 5:30pm at the Kath Teychenne centre in Breed St Traralgon. After the meeting we're heading to the REH for a $13 parma (about 6:45pm).

We encourage all members to attend the AGM.

A group of 10 braved the elements and had a fantastic weekend away camping down the Prom. A huge storm and down pour on the Saturday morning did not dampen spirits but united us into a small huddle beneath the awesome tarp set up thanks to Mary and Joergen.

Saturday was a gorgeous summer day with everyone enjoying the Prom in their own way; swimming in the surf, hiking, kayaking, walking along the beach, lazing the day away in the sun. Both Friday and Saturday nights were spent sitting out beneath the stars chatting. Several close encounters with the local wombats left Mary and Joergen with a series of great stories.

This trip was a great little getaway and will become a Latrobe Young Professionals regular summer event.

I’d love to say that we ‘youngies’ showed the ‘oldies’ how to play lawn bowls but it was the other way around. And gee, some of them are good. But that said, some of our group of 23 also showed some potential with several being asked to return to become regular Monday night social bowlers. We were placed in groups of 4 and made up a team of 6 with 2 experienced bowlers joining each team. With their assistance, hints and coaching everyone was able to pick up the basic skills required to have an excellent night and learn something new. The BBQ dinner put on by the bowling club was a good starter. Lawn bowls will definitely be scheduled again as a future event.

We had 26 members and their friends join us in the LYP marquee for a day of fillies and fun. The occasional passing shower may have dampened our fancy race day outfits but didn’t dampen our spirits as we huddled together under the marquee. With many LYP first timers it was a great opportunity to meet new friends and catch up with friends. The day ended on a high note for several lucky punters!

WARNING NOTE for females (or males if that’s your thing) for future race events…high heels and bark do not make walking easy though it does provide onlookers with some entertainment!!

About 20 people joined us for a 10 course meal at Evviva in Traralgon. The food was superb and the night was enjoyed by all. With a large contingent from Australian Paper it was great to see everyone mixing in well and meeting other young professionals from the Valley and outer regions. Everyone went home full, but not too full. Each course was small to ensure each course was eaten! A great night out and definitely will be put on the schedule again in the future.

It was a great night out at the LV Golf Driving range in Morwell. Our group of eighteen showed a wide range of golfing abilities and skills (or in my case and many others cases, a lack-of). No one was even close to matching Scott’s obvious driving skill with many people not even able to see his balls land, they were hit that far! Several would-be golfers took great delight in attempting to hit the guy in the cart picking up the balls. I believe someone got him!! The night was topped off with a delivery of several slabs of pizza. With several newcomers attending there were new friendships formed that evening, which was great to see.
